So read the aspect counts before the stars. A 4.6 with one loud, repeated complaint is a more predictable product than a 4.8 with a thin review base, and both are more informative than a rating with no volume behind it.

• Check the review count, not just the rating. Under a few hundred reviews, a 4.8 is noise.
• Open “Customers say” and read the aspect counts. That is Amazon summarising thousands of reviews for you, free.
• Sort critical reviews by most recent. Aggregate scores blend years of history, so a problem fixed in 2023 and a problem that started last month look identical in the average.
• Look for the alcohol percentage on the pack, not just in the title. Plenty of “antibacterial” wipes contain no alcohol at all.
• Watch which complaint repeats. One person calling a wipe small is taste. Four hundred people calling it flimsy is a specification.
